Overview
Kitchen Sink is a carrier defense mission that tasks players with defending the fleet from an aerial onslaught in four directions. Threats range from the Tu-22 Backfire, Su-24 Fencer, and Tu-142 Bear anti-shipping attack aircraft, each wave escorted by MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters. It is a simple mission with relatively simple objectives but difficult execution.
Objectives
Mission objectives are simple: prevent the carriers from being sunk! To facilitate this task, four sectors have been set up around the carrier’s route, allowing players to create a strategy for effective coverage. These sectors can be ignored and differing strategies can be leveraged, but be advised that Red forces are prepared for counterattacks!
Considerations
All slots are hot start, so make sure to watch your throttle and controls when you select a slot! AV-8B slots will need to shift their alignment mode from IFA to NAV as GPS is not available for 1993.
The carrier group is well defended, with four destroyers and frigates for defense. However, they do not have infinite resources and will quickly expend their missiles against the first or second wave of threats. A rapid aerial defense that takes out even some of the attacking aircraft before they can launch missiles will be essential to the group’s survival. The most critical threats come from the Tu-22s with their AS-4 missiles, which have incredible power and striking range. By comparison, the Su-24s are equipped with much shorter ranged missiles, though those flights are more likely to be escorted by fighters.
Another important consideration is that the scenario’s date does not allow for more advanced weapons: the F/A-18s are restricted to AIM-7s and AIM-9s, severely hampering their efforts in the mission. F-14s with their AIM-54s will be required to effectively bring down the incoming mass of attackers.

AI Flights
If requested, AI assistance can be activated for this mission. Doing so will successively launch 4xF-14A and 4xF/A-18Cs for each sector, timed for the arrival of hostile aircraft. They are not a substitute for players, but can reduce some of the load in event of more restricted player counts.
