Overview
Pegasus Gamble is a WWII scenario with mixed Player-Enemy vs Player-Enemy gameplay. There are a large number of slots available across the entire map, with a relatively short time to action. The Allies are on offense while the Axis are on defense; if the Axis team can prevent the Allied team from achieving their objectives by timeout, the Axis win the scenario.
Objectives
The Allied team has three primary objectives: destruction of the massing Panzer division; elimination of the artillery guns and munitions depot; and destruction of the V-1 launch complex. If the Allied vehicle depot is still present, the Allied pilots may request for ground attack on each of their objectives; however, this option is only present if Allied aircraft have been over the associated objective while it is the current active task. Three hidden objectives can be revealed by reconnaissance aircraft slots.
The Axis team must slow down or stop the Allied advance for the duration of the mission. To assist in this endeavor, they may attack the Allied vehicle depot to stop ground forces from massing, forcing the Allies to achieve their objectives through air attacks alone; they may attack the Allied off-shore ships to prevent artillery strikes; and they may be able to find and locate secret objectives behind Allied lines through the use of reconnaissance aircraft slots.
Considerations
This mission has a number of special features: Yak-52 and Christen Eagle II aircraft slots will air start and can drop smoke to mark targets, then request artillery fire at their smoke markers; certain slots are for reconnaissance use, starting hot at rear airfields and equipped with fuel tanks, which can then fly routes through enemy territory to reveal the location of secret objectives; and AI medium bombers will fly every hour to strike the current active objective for either side.
Liaison aircraft (Yak-52, Christen Eagle II) are powerful assets: despite their relatively slow speed and vulnerability, their ability to mark targets and request artillery fire can utterly devastate an objective. Firing requests are limited to every 5 minutes and if one is shot down, any in-progress artillery strikes are canceled and the pilot must mark the target again. These aircraft are also versatile enough to land at the FARPs closer to the front line to refuel.
Reconnaissance aircraft are limited to the F-6D (P-51D), Spitfire PR IX (Spitfire LF IXc), and Bf-109G-10R2 (Bf-109K-4). These slots hot start and are intended to fly their waypoints as precisely as possible to reveal the location of secret objectives.
Turbulence is turned off in this mission due to issues with DCS WWII aircraft causing excessive frame rate loss if turbulence is on.
